Sequoia was our first trip outside of Texas. This four day, 25 mile and 10,000 vertical feet hike has a lot of details...

Big Bend National Park

Big Bend is talked about more than any other park in Texas, so we finally decided to give it a go. Due to the time of the year, we knew the amount of water in the desert park would minimal. They recommend you bring one gallon of water per 24 hours in the park. Since we planned to camp in the Chisos mountains nearly 2,000 feet above the parking lot, the plan was to only bring 1.5 gallons each...

Bastrop State Park

Another work trip to Austin means an opportunity to do a little camping. Somehow, we managed to schedule the trip on Easter. This was all the excuse Ted needed to bow out and it caused Dale to not be able to leave until he finished his family duties (which concluded around 1:30pm)...

Lake Somerville

Middle of winter should make for a good camping trip, right? Right?!? Ted, Dale and myself picked Lake Somerville because we knew Ted would have the possibility to catch some fish and it was close to Austin. This trip started the same as all the others: on a Friday with chances of rain. I was again coming directly from LA and that put us in a time pinch. It had been getting dark shortly after 5pm and we didn't show up to the park until 4:30pm...

Hill Country State Natural Area

On the first trip to HCSNA, we only saw about half the park and Dale wanted to see the other half. Ted was able to make it to this trip and promised that if there were fish, he was going to catch them (and even showed up with his "Fish Fear Me" shirt). Once again, we were faced with a high likelihood of rain...

Lost Maples

Ted bowed out again so it was another trip with just Dale and myself. This was the first trip where it involved me coming into town from my new home in LA. Dale and I were torn on where to go. We had been eyeing Lost Maples but it is known more for the beautiful trees during the fall. But not knowing if I could make it back in the fall, we decided that we would give it a go for a two night trip...

Pedernales Falls

Ted finally decided to make an appearance on a camping trip. We were again looking to keep it close to Austin so we settled on Pedernales Falls for a two night trip. We headed out on Friday as we typically do and the forecast called for rain (again). After a few detours due to flooded roads, we got to the park in the early afternoon...

Colorado Bend

For the second trip, Dale and I did quite a bit of research to find another quality spot to do some primitive camping. Everybody seemed to have great things to say about Colorado Bend and it was only about 1.5 hours from Austin, so we decided to do another one night trip...

Hill Country State Natural Area

Our first primitive camping trip, Dale and I headed to Hill Country SNA around noon on a Friday for a one night trip. The forecast was not very favorable as rain was expected for most of the weekend. We came across a website called accuweather that said there would be a break in the rain right about the time we expected to get there. That was all the encouragement we needed...
